Amy's Bio:

I began my journey in radiology nearly two decades ago and joined UCSF Health because I wanted to be part of something that makes a measurable difference in people’s lives every day. Over the years I have grown from a frontline technologist into a leadership role that allows me to support and empower others while driving innovation and operational excellence across our Breast Imaging sites.

I am proud to lead a phenomenal team that delivers compassionate, high-quality care to thousands of patients each year. Together we have expanded diagnostic and screening access, introduced advanced imaging technologies such as contrast-enhanced mammography and contrast-guided biopsy, and strengthened our operational infrastructure to support both clinical and research excellence. What motivates me most is seeing the direct impact our work has on early detection and improved outcomes for patients and knowing that every improvement we make creates ripples of care beyond ourselves.

What advice would you give yourself early on in your career? To a woman entering your field today?
I would tell myself not to underestimate the power of persistence and authenticity. Early in my career I thought leadership meant having all the answers. I have since learned it is about listening, building trust, and bringing others along with you. To any woman entering this field today I would say to speak up, keep learning, and know that grace and grit can coexist beautifully.

What has been an important success in your career? Have you had a key breakthrough moment?
A turning point for me was realizing that leadership is not just about managing but about inspiring. My most rewarding success has been building teams that feel seen, supported, and proud of the care they provide. Implementing department-wide initiatives that improved access, introduced new imaging capabilities, and enhanced patient experience while fostering staff recognition has been deeply fulfilling. Those shared wins remind me why I love what I do.

What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside of work I love traveling, hiking, and exploring new cultures. The ocean is my favorite place to recharge and reflect. Time spent outdoors helps me reset and reminds me of the balance that makes both life and leadership meaningful.

If you had to choose an anthem, what would it be?
This Must Be the Place (Naïve Melody) by Talking Heads. It always makes me smile. It is about connection, gratitude, and finding home in the things that matter most. And honestly, UCSF really does feel like the place for me, where purpose and people come together in the best possible way.
