Stephanie's Bio:

Stephanie Feng is a nurse practitioner who cares for patients with genital or urinary cancers, such as prostate, kidney, or bladder cancers. With a profound passion for wellness and self-care, Stephanie is not only a strong advocate in her field but also a mentor who empowers women to discover their true passions and prioritize their well-being.

While earning her bachelor's degree in public health sciences at the University of California, Irvine, Feng discovered that she enjoyed population health (examining how to improve the health of communities) and caring for vulnerable groups. She earned a master's degree in nursing and completed her nurse practitioner training at Samuel Merritt University. Stephanie's deep-rooted belief in advancement of care, coupled with her love for the Bay Area's beauty, eventually brought her to UCSF, where she continues to contribute significantly to research efforts that evaluate new and innovative treatments for genital and urinary cancers.

Additionally, she is an advocate for informatics and is dedicated to enhancing clinical care workflows through advancing health care technology and education to end-users. She firmly believes that enhancing the quality of health care data collection and promoting data interoperability are pivotal not only for improving efficiency but also for strengthening the provider relationship with electronic health records.

What advice would you give yourself early on in your career? To a woman entering your field today?

As I reflect on my early career as a nurse and the wonderful journey that led me to becoming a nurse practitioner, I can't help but smile and reflect on my journey. As advice to a woman who is starting her career in healthcare today I would encourage them to embrace every opportunity that comes her way with enthusiasm and an open mind. While it's great to have an idea of what you want, be flexible and willing to explore new paths. Remember, every experience is a chance to learn and grow, and it might just lead you to incredible places you never expected!

Can you tell us about an important role model or mentor in your life?

When I think of my role models and mentors, my heart fills with gratitude and happiness. My parents have been the guiding stars in my life, teaching me the values of hard work, resilience, and kindness. Their unwavering support and belief in me have shaped my journey as a nurse practitioner. With their love, I've learned the importance of building meaningful connections with others, fostering a positive work culture, and empowering those around me to thrive.

What has been an important success in your career? Have you had a key breakthrough moment

Some of the most cherished moments in my career have been the joy of building meaningful relationships with patients and colleagues alike. These connections have been transformative, not only in my life but also in the lives of those I've had the privilege to care for. Witnessing positive impacts in their health and well-being has been the ultimate success for me.

A key breakthrough moment for me was when I began to take on leadership roles within my clinical positions as these allowed me to realize that my passions not only were involving caring for patients but also supporting those around me to take care of themselves as well. Each day brings new opportunities to create a positive change, and that's what makes this journey so fulfilling and exciting!

What brought you to healthcare? Can you tell us about your professional journey?

As a science enthusiast and a people person, nursing seemed like the perfect fit for me! The versatility of nursing roles fascinated me, and I couldn't wait to dive in. Through volunteering and various experiences, I discovered my true passion - empowering others to take charge of their health. That's when I knew becoming a nurse practitioner was my calling, as it would allow me to make a meaningful impact in people's lives every day.
After graduating from nursing school, I started my journey as a sedation nurse at a women's health clinic. It was there that I discovered the significance of connecting with people on a deeper, vulnerable level, which fueled my passion for oncology. Since then, I've had the privilege of joining several oncology teams, playing a key role in team expansion and culture growth. Currently, I am proud to care of GU medical oncology patients, and I'm equally excited about my role in informatics, where I help healthcare providers enhance their relationship with the electronic health record. It's been a fulfilling and rewarding professional path, and I'm proud of the impact I've made in the lives of patients and fellow healthcare professionals!

What do you like to do outside of work?

When I'm not busy making a positive difference in healthcare, you'll find me embracing my other passions with a big smile! I'm a strong advocate of wellness and self-care, and I love mentoring other women to find their passions and prioritize their well-being. I also enjoy real estate investing and networking with business-minded individuals! And of course, being active with group fitness, exploring nature through hiking, and spending time with my adorable feline friend!

How do you think the role of women in the workforce has changed throughout your career?

Throughout my career, the remarkable progress of women in the workforce has been a true inspiration. I've had the privilege to learn from incredible women who have become both my mentors and friends. Witnessing their increasing representation and influence across various industries fills me with happiness and pride. And also, helped me to break barriers, tap into my deeper potential, and create a future of endless possibilities for all women.

Do you have a favorite song?  If you had to choose an anthem what would it be?

"Count on Me" by Bruno Mars is not only a song I thoroughly enjoy but also an anthem that truly embodies the essence of who I am. The lyrics and melody beautifully reflect the significance of meaningful relationships and positivity in my life. It serves as a personal reminder of the value I place on being there for others and the impact that fostering strong connections can have on our journey together.

These books have become companions in my journey of continuous learning and development.

What’s your ideal weather?

Picture a beautiful day with the sun shining brightly, a gentle breeze brushing your skin, and the temperature hovering around 73-75 degrees Fahrenheit! That, my friends, is my ideal weather! It's the kind of weather that makes me want to step outside, take a deep breath, and embrace the beauty of life with a happy heart.

IfcoIf If you could go anywhere for a day, where would you go?

As someone who cherishes stunning views, hiking, and backpacking, while also having a passion for immersing in diverse cultures and savoring delicious food, I can't resist the allure of the Swiss Alps!
