Our Stories

Storytelling is what connects and brings us together. So let’s celebrate, inspire and empower each other by sharing our stories.

Rosa Jimenez-Montoya, LVN

Sr. LVN Supervisor, Department of OB GYN Services and Perinatal Medicine Specialists

Here is what Rosa's nominator had to say about her:

Since Rosa accepted the LVN Supervisor role here in our clinic, she has shown great attention to detail while leading our team. She is one of those knows-all-everything about the clinic,  which makes her such a great resource not only for our back-office team but also for bridging our admin teams as well. Every subgroup in our department leans on Rosa for her clinical knowledge and it's great to have someone really step up to this role in such a strong way.

Rosa’s Bio:

I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, a proud daughter of immigrant parents who came from humble beginnings to create a better life for our family. Through their hard work and perseverance, they achieved so much, and I am deeply proud of the life and opportunities they have provided for me and my siblings. I have now been a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) for 15 years, starting in home health and pediatrics before finding my home in Women’s Health at UCSF.

I have been fortunate to spend the past 12 years at UCSF, beginning as a float nurse in Women’s Health and later becoming a permanent member of the High-Risk Obstetrics team at Parnassus. In 2015, I was part of the team that helped transition and establish our department at Mission Bay. Watching our department grow and evolve has been an incredibly rewarding experience. For the past three years, I have proudly served as the Clinical Supervisor, a role that has deepened my appreciation for our clinic and the amazing team that makes it all possible. I have been honored to advocate for my staff, contribute to new initiatives, and support positive changes throughout our department. I really couldn’t be where I am today without the support of my back-office team.

What brought you to healthcare? Can you tell us about your professional journey?

Growing up, I was drawn to the medical field, even helping my mother through a medical emergency when doctors struggled to diagnose her ruptured appendix. That experience left a lasting impact on me and inspired my desire to become a nurse, so I could help and advocate for patients when they need it most.

While it took me some time to return to school due to life's many obstacles, I never gave up on that goal. For the past two years, I have been working full-time while also pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), and I am so very proud of myself to be reaching the finish line this summer. Balancing work, school, and family life has been challenging, but it has been possible thanks to the unconditional support of my parents, my husband, and especially my daughter, Selena, who has been my greatest motivation. I am deeply grateful for the opportunities, growth, and support I have experienced both at UCSF and at home, and I am excited to continue growing and giving back to the community that has given me so much.

What is your favorite movie or TV Show you have watched recently?

I’ve always loved binge-watching TV shows and movies — it’s one of my favorite ways to relax. Game of Thrones will always be in my top 10 list, and more recently, I really enjoyed watching The Pitt. It was an amazing show and kept me completely hooked from start to finish!

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work, I really enjoy simply relaxing and spending quality time with my family and friends — it’s truly my favorite way to recharge. When I have a little more time, I love going to sporting events to cheer on my favorite teams — the 49ers, Warriors, and Giants! I also enjoy exploring new restaurants and trying different foods whenever I get the chance.
