Our Stories

Storytelling is what connects and brings us together. So let’s celebrate, inspire and empower each other by sharing our stories.

Patience Vega

 Director, Revenue Management

Here is what Patience’s nominator had to say about her:

“Patience continuously impresses me with the number of initiatives she and her team take on, the knowledge and accountability she demonstrates in her work, and the way she always brings a can-do attitude and approachability to every encounter I've had with her. She is a proven leader both within the Revenue Cycle and across the organization. In the work that I do, I see the many ways she is involved in strategic initiatives and that is in addition to countless other projects and her department's day-to-day operations. All in all, Patience consistently demonstrates UCSF's PRIDE values and Revenue Cycle is lucky to have her as one of our many great leaders!”  - Christina Delsman

 Patience's Bio:

I started at UCSF in 2019 as the Director of Revenue Management. Prior to joining my UCSF team, I spent twenty-seven years at UC Irvine starting as an administrative assistant and advancing ultimately to director. In 2017, as empty nesters for the first time in decades, my husband and I decided to venture north for a new opportunity at Stanford. Little did I know, three years later I would find myself back within the UC system, my home at UCSF.  It was here that I could apply my experience and build a team dedicated to best practice. To achieve this vision, I sought out to hire talented individuals that embodied service excellence. With a positive patient experience at the forefront and over two-hundred years combined experience, our team is dedicated to establishing transparency and efficiency in capturing services rendered into chargeable, billable services. While I am proud of the leader I have grown into, it is witnessing the culminating efforts from colleagues here at UCSF that I will cherish as the highlight of my career.

 What’s on your reading list?

I am currently reading Ambitious Like a Mother by Lara Bazelon.   This is the story that supports the belief that striving for professional achievement and economic stability makes women better mothers, not worse ones.

What’s your ideal weather?

A brisk fall morning with vibrant colored leaves and a clear blue sky.

What do you like to do outside of work?

As a wife to my high school sweetheart, mother of 4 and grandmother of 2, any and all time spent with my family are the highlights of my life.

What brought you to healthcare? Can you tell us about your professional journey?

I stumbled upon my career as a young, mother-to-be who ironically needed healthcare. I wasn’t expecting to find passion and purpose, just stability and security. However, I quickly found my personal values aligning with the UC culture. It was this culture that empowered me to further my education and successfully placed me on the path toward directorship. I am grateful that my years of service have not only provided me with a fulfilling career, but have helped me become the role-model and provider to my family that I dreamed of as that determined, mother-to-be.
