Natalie’s Bio:

I am the Administrative Supervisor of the Gastroenterology & Hepatology pod in the UCSF Health Contact Center. I have been with UCSF since 2019. I started as a temporary practice coordinator in GI Medical Oncology. This was my first role in administrative healthcare after graduating from San Francisco State University with a BA in Nutrition. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do professionally, but I quickly took to the role and developed a passion for helping patients. I went back to school to pursue a master’s degree in healthcare informatics. During my time as a practice coordinator with the Pediatric Access Center, I was selected for Cohort 1 of the Ambulatory Elevate Leadership Development Program. The program encouraged me to pursue a leadership role here at UCSF, so I joined the Contact Center in July of 2022. During my time with the Contact Center, I’ve collaborated with other leaders throughout UCSF to develop and implement standard workflows. I continue to advocate for my team and encourage their professional development.

What advice would you give yourself early on in your career? To a woman entering your field today?

Believe in yourself and accept the challenges, you’re strong enough and smart enough to handle them. You are in your position for a reason, and you deserve to be here. Don’t let anyone intimidate you or make you feel less than. That advice goes to anyone in any field.

Can you tell us about a significant role model or mentor in your life?

Bess Wildman, formerly with UCSF and now with The University of Chicago, was an extraordinary mentor. Not only did she give me great professional advice, but she also shared her personal beliefs and values that made her a genuine, good person. She said success is lifting the people around you to be the best versions of themselves. I truly took that to heart and try my best to model that.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Outside of work I spend time with my son. He just turned 4 years old and he’s my pride and joy. It’s difficult to have a good work-life balance so I value our time together. He likes going to the movies, picking out a library book, and running around at the park.

Do you have a favorite song? If you had to choose an anthem, what would it be?

I love Escapade by Janet Jackson. It’s such a fun song and instantly puts me in a good mood. My anthem would be I’m That Girl by Beyonce.
