Our Stories

Storytelling is what connects and brings us together. So let’s celebrate, inspire and empower each other by sharing our stories.

What's an issue you think remains overlooked or under-addressed in terms of women in the professional world?   Despite it being 2021, I believe that women, especially women of the global majority, are still largely underrepresented in leadership roles and still encounter wage inequities.

What brought you to healthcare? Can you tell us about your professional journey?   As a daughter of Vietnamese immigrants, I noticed growing up that my family would never access healthcare unless they were seriously ill and when they would access it, it would be very challenging for them to navigate the system. I became very interested in community health and worked towards bridging the gaps for underserved communities. In my first few professional roles, I provided care coordination and non-clinical case management services for psychosocially and medically complex patients, both youth and adults. While helping my patients navigate through the system, I noticed many barriers that they would face that made it challenging for them to access appropriate care. This led me to pursue an MPH in health management and then subsequently, an administrative fellowship so that I could gain the skills set that would allow me to continue addressing the changing needs of our communities and ensure that all patients receive quality and accessible healthcare.

What do you like to do outside of work?   Outside of work, I love going on long solo walks, hiking, practicing meditation/yoga/lyra, exploring new places, expanding my houseplant collection (I have over 100!), and baking (both desserts and breads).

What’s your role at UCSF and what is your favorite part about it?   I am an Administrative Fellow under the office of the COO/SVP. I love my role because it gives me the opportunity to work on diverse projects, to continuously learn, and to collaborate with so many different leaders and colleagues across the organization.

What’s a favorite movie or TV Show you’ve watched recently?  This is a challenging question because I love so many shows! Some of my favorites include: Modern Love, Schitt's Creek, Queen's Gambit, Ted Lasso, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and Game of Thrones.
